Manasa Essential Triadic 3-Day Workshop

Starting March 2017, classes at Manasa will be themed differently. Manasa yogis are highly encouraged to join the upcoming 3-Day Essential Triadic Workshop, to familiarized with the new class themes, intentions and directions so that WE can all move together towards greater growth, on and off the mat.

DAY 1: MANASA PULSATIONS

Inspired by the philosophy of krama traditions of Tantra, this workshop focuses on clarifying the components which make up a Manasa Pulsations class. Be ready for dynamic conditioning mobility work even as you get introduced to the philosophy of ever recurring pulsations which make up what we call as time.
From a physical conditioning perspective, all the different elements such as push strength, pull strength, rotations, pelvic mobility, lunge strength etc will be seriously looked into.

Some of the work will involve:
Child pose emergences- Fundamental Manasa emergences and submergences from child pose

Abdominal pulsations- Dynamic work involving your abdominal and hip flexor muscles, enhancing their strength

Kalari 1-4 emergences- different lunge based flows linked to the breath, which will improve your coordination, leg, arm and upper body strength and flexibility

Malasana/ downdog transitions- which will set you up for eventual leaps into bakasana and other demanding sequences in conventional vinyasas

Vajrasan/ purvottanasan emergences- This will strengthen and lengthen the quadriceps and hip flexors, eventually helping in various back bend transitions

Rope pulsations- Mobility work done on ropes, which will vastly improve your pulling strength

Asana transitions- dynamic sequencing of asanas, as you enter and exit dynamically

Breath work- We will clarify different aspects of Kapalabhati and agnisara as we do it at Manasa

 

DAY 2: MANASA FLEXIBILITY

The second day is Manasa flexibility Workshop.
Be ready to hold positions for a longer time in this workshop, as we clarify the different aspects of Manasa flexibility work. This workshop aims at opening us to a greater range of movement at our joints, as well as a movement towards great heart qualities. Inspired by the teachings of Ramayana, you will get introduced to the 16 heart qualities which make up greatness.

Hips and Hamstrings:
We will work towards increasing the flexion mobility of your hip joint, as well as the flexibility of glutes and hamstrings. This will reduce the shortness and tightness around the posterior chain of our lower body due to excess sitting, and this can contribute towards reducing certain types of back aches.

Inner hips, Outer hips, Lotus:
These Manasa sequences will focus on releasing tension along the inner and outer part of lower body, including the adductors, the lateral side of the legs, IT bands. These areas can get really tight which can contribute to different kinds of knee pains, hip pains etc, and these sequences can help release them.

Quadriceps, Hip flexors, Back bending
These Manasa sequences focuses on reducing tension along the anterior chain of the body, such as quadriceps, hip flexors, abdominals, chest muscles etc. Using different props we will gently but deeply drink from the great backbending directions of yoga. Some studies indicate that these postures has the potency to invigorate our cardiovascular system, both strengthening and elasticizing major arteries.

Breath Work- Different aspects of single nostril, alternate nostril breath work at Manasa will be explained and practiced.

 

 

DAY 3: MANASA STRENGTH & STABILITY

Day 3 is on Strength and Stability.
Inspired by the philosophy of Yoga sutras of Patanjali, this workshop focusses on clarifying the components which make up a Manasa Strength class.

The sequences emphasise on:

Wrist Range Work- Our wrists do not get their full range of movement during our routine activities. In yoga practice too, generally we load the joint in its extension only. These sequences will open up the wrists with gentle weight loading in both flexion and extension.

Shoulder range of movement- Tightness and tension knots are common in our upper back, between our shoulder blades. This can impede movement of our shoulder blades affecting movement of our arms overhead.

Push strength Pull strength- The sequences will focus on developing pushing strength of both upper body and lower body, along with corresponding pulling work, to balance strength development on both sides of the different joints.

Breath work- We will clarify the viloma method of pranayama as practiced at Manasa
